Rowan University is a Carnegie-classified national doctoral research institution dedicated to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education. Rowan was chosen by governor Jon Corzine to house the new medical school primarily because the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) was not in a financial position to fund the creation of the school, for which Rowan issued $100 million in bonds.
