Hello, My husband has 2 nephrostomy tubes and is currently on his second cycle of cisplatin for metastatic BC. About a week and a half ago we noticed a very strong plastic-y smell (like a kiddie pool liner) from one of the bags. He reported this to the cancer center and no one seems to have ever come across this smell before.
When I had my nephrostomy tube (twice), the other kidney produced in normal volume - about two to three cups per hour, depending on how much I drank. In other words, the kidneys EACH continued to produce at their previous rate. I have had a nephrostomy tube procedure. It is a procedure to bypass the obstruction of urine from the kidney.

And my nephrostomy tubes block more frequently and I don't dare schedule the change more than 4 weeks and risking blockages at that. I've observed my care and taught myself to keep the tubes as free as possible. How do you unblock the urostomy? I was hoping that wasn't possible to get blocked.

And the doctor told me I would have them for the rest of my life. I had pain really only when they pulled on something. It will get better. I did find these short tights almost like extra long ...
I had to have bilateral nephrostomy tubes put in January of this year. My creatinine was at 8.6 and was basically in kidney failure. The tumor obstructed the stents that were inserted in the ureters. I had the stents replaced every 90 days since March, 2014 while on cabitaxel and curstersen (clinical trial drug) .
